WELCOME TO JIM'S AUTISM BLOG

Hi everyone and thanks for visiting our blog. My wife and I created this blog to chronicle our experience while raising a son with Asperger's syndrome. Since our son was diagnosed with an ASD at age 5, we've had a lot of questions. Lucky for us we have a great support network in place. And our blog gives us an opportunity to share what we've learned with our readers. We hope you find our blog informative and interesting. Thanks again for visiting.

TOP 5 LEGO DS GAMES FOR KIDS WITH AUTISM/ASPERGER'S

Recently we were out looking for a new DS game for Jacob, and we came across another great Lego title.    Sometimes when you're out shopping you might come across a game you may want to get for your child.  But it's risky when you don't know if your child will enjoy it.   The Lego series seems to be very popular and Jacob really enjoys these type of games so I feel much more comfortable picking up a new Lego game. And there isn't a single Lego DS game that Jacob hasn't enjoyed, which is surprising considering that Jacob has Asperger's.  We've bought so many DS games that Jacob doesn't even play, it's nice to find a game series without any duds.  So I thought I'd list our Top 5 favourite Lego games for the Nintendo DS.

5.  Pirates of the Caribbean  -  This is a fantastic game.  In it you play as Captain Jack Sparrow and it contains characters and locations from 4 POTC movies.  In this game you travel a huge world as you battle tons of enemies and bosses, and you have to complete many fun puzzles to finish the game.

4.  Harry Potter  - This game covers years 1-4 of the Harry Potter franchise.  In this game you have to fight bad guys and solve puzzles, but you get to use all 3 of the main characters from Harry Potter including Ron, Hermione and Harry.  This game allows you to travel to actual places from the movies and it contains over 100 Harry Potter characters and as such, the world in the game is huge.

3.  Indiana Jones Part 1  -  Another classic Lego DS game.  This time you get to play as Indiana Jones as well as over 60 total characters.  The main weapon of choice is your trusty whip and you can use many environmental objects as weapons too.  In this game you can swim, climb and fight as you go through an expansive world.

2.  Ninjago  -  This is a follow up to Lego Battles for the DS.  In this game you battle to become the master of Spinjitsu.  You can play as either good or evil as you build your army, and there's also an excellent Battle Mode that's full of challenges.  This is easily one of the best Lego titles available.

Co op play:  Yes
Price:  $30
ESRB:  E for everyone

1.  Star Wars The Complete Saga  -  This is a fantastic game and it covers all 6 movies in the Star Wars franchise.  It has an expansive world and it has tons of great characters that we adults all know.  And since it covers all 6 of the movies, you're sure to get lots of game play, including fighting, shoot outs and puzzles.

Co op play:  Yes
Price:  $20
ESRB:  E for everyone

Jacob loves all of these DS games, especially Star Wars.  And you really can't go wrong with which one you choose.  The best thing about these games to me is the price.  I've purchased $50 games and they've rarely been used, so I'd much rather buy 2 of these titles for the same price.  I'm not sure what it is, but Lego has skills when it comes to developing fun titles in the Lego series.  Don't tell Jacob, but I've also tried a few of these titles myself and they're great for adults too.

Other great aspects about these games is that the controls are almost identical from game to game.  So your child won't have to spend too much time getting used to the controls.  They can just pick up the game and begin playing.  And they come with fantastic instruction manuals.  I never really used to read them, but Jacob loves to go through the manuals because they're full of characters and pictures.

So if you're looking for a Nintendo DS game for a child with autism, then you might want to try one of these, or if you're looking for a different type of game, check out some of my other reviews here.
