What a tough kid. |
During the past few months at school (and pretty much for as long as we can remember) Jacob has been extremely defiant in all aspects of his life. Even if I ask if he wants to go swimming, or to the park, the first thing out of his mouth is an angry "no". Then he'll quickly backtrack and say "Oh wait, I mean yes." His defiance is so much that we've contacted our autism doctor in search of an answer as to why.
We feel, even though we're not experts, that Jacob has ODD. Which stands for oppositional defiance disorder. ODD is common with other learning disabilities like ASD or ADHD. Jacob doesn't deliberately annoy people or swear at all, so maybe it isn't ODD. But we made an appointment just to be sure. So when we received a call last Friday, that his doctor had an opening today, we were extremely pleased. It can take months to get in to see the doctor, so a few days wait is fantastic.
Then on Friday, out of the blue, and remember it's summer, Jacob got a bad cough and began vomiting. What luck. We planned to go down to the local harbour to watch the Canada Day fireworks that the city does every year, but we couldn't. So we wanted to wait until this morning before cancelling the appointment in hopes that maybe Jacob would be able to go, but no dice. He was up until 1AM last night because of his coughing and he was up at 8AM this morning. So I had to cancel his appointment at the last minute.
The receptionist who took my call understood and wasn't upset about the last minute cancellation. Our doctor is going on holidays for the summer so who knows when our next chance for an appointment will be. So we're just going to be patient and wait for the next available time slot.
Feel better soon Jacob.
ReplyDeleteHe's already improving Blanche, but now I feel less than 100%. Everytime Jacob gets sick, I get sick in return. There should be a law about that too.
DeleteHope you guys get better soon! I've been coughing for a month now.
ReplyDeleteWe usuallsy recover quickly, but you've been ill for a while now. I hope you get better soon.
DeletePoor kid, I hope he feels better soon... But man, oh, man!! What a handsome boy! His eyes are amazing, and that smile...! Bet it makes it really hard to keep a straight face when you're "meant" to!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. It's nearly impossible to discipline Jacob, especially when he smiles at you. And his eyebrows have a mind of their own. He can make them ance like I've never seen before.
