THE DOG DAYS OF SUMMER

The Summer holiday is slowing down and quickly coming to a close.  Nothing too exciting has happened around here this week, which to parents with Aspie kids, is good.  But it's strange that even Jacob has a laid back, relaxed attitude this close to a new school year starting.

Jacob doesn't seem too excited about going back to school, but he has told us that he misses his EA.  This is great because Jacob now has something to look forward to this September when school starts back up.  Jacob has never been looking forward to back to school like he is this year, even though he's not that eager.  Hopefully this means that his interest in school will be in full swing and he'll have a productive first month in school. 

Shannie and I went school uniform shopping on Wednesday to try and find last minute deals for Jacob and were we surprised.  Jacob is currently a size 8, but he's so tall that size 8 pants aren't quite long enough.  So we went to Old Navy in search of pants, and there were no size 8 in the entire store.  Of course Shannie and I started to panic, but up on a top shelf, there were 4 pairs of size 10 slim.  Honestly, I've never heard of such a size, so we were quite excited at our find.  We bought all 4 pairs and tried them on Jacob when we got home, and they all fit perfectly.  The best thing was that they were only $10 a pair, as opposed to $40 each in the past.

It feels kind of weird because the last 2 weeks of summer vacation are scheduled to be quiet.  There's no doctors appointments or anything like that.  Jacob has all his school uniforms ready, so we're not scrambling there either.  Normally the last few weeks of summer are stressful, which could create a negative atmosphere for going back.  It'll be interesting to see how Jacob is in school now that we're ready ahead of schedule.

So we're just sitting back and waiting for school to start back up.  We've began to get Jacob up earlier than usual because he's routinely staying up past midnight and getting up at about 9AM.  It's good for us to begin getting him up earlier each day, just so he's not too grumpy on the first day back.  We expect the first few weeks of school to be a transition period for Jacob, but each year, he's done better, so we're cautiously optimistic.

As for today?  It's much of the same.  We have nothing to do but relax, and enjoy the last few days of the holiday.  We might go for a walk down to the bay or something like that.  It's supposed to get very warm today, so staying close to home is likely the best idea.  I'd like to get Jacob swimming again today, just to help spend some energy in hopes of getting his sleeping schedule back on track.  As our summer is winding down, I hope everyone has had a great summer and I hope that everyone's weekend goes well.  And I'll hopefully create a post on Monday.
