WELCOME TO JIM'S AUTISM BLOG

Hi everyone and thanks for visiting our blog. My wife and I created this blog to chronicle our experience while raising a son with Asperger's syndrome. Since our son was diagnosed with an ASD at age 5, we've had a lot of questions. Lucky for us we have a great support network in place. And our blog gives us an opportunity to share what we've learned with our readers. We hope you find our blog informative and interesting. Thanks again for visiting.

UPDATE ON SUMMER TRIP #3

This summer, we promised Jacob that we'd go on three trips together.  We've already completed 2 and our third trip was to be at Marineland.  But today I saw this article on the Sympatico homepage.  Jacob just loves animals and he really wants to go, but after reading this article, I'm not sure if we'll end up going.

Here's the link.  Horror at Marineland

It's hard to make a deal with a child with asperger's, then break it.  But if Jacob knew about this article, he'd probably start crying.  So we might go back to the lion safari before school starts.  Or maybe the Toronto zoo.

Animal abuse is something that really hits home with us, especially since Jacob's been in grief therapy because of what happened to our dog Max.  So I thought I'd share the story.

  1. That is so sad. It breaks my heart. I will never understand how people can treat animals so bad.

  2. Ugggghhh, and that's something that you just don't want to ever have to explain to your child. I'm sorry. I think I'd be going to another place and telling him the other place was closed for the day. A little white lie but I think that's better than the whole truth. Either way, it's a difficult decision.
