JACOB'S GRADE 3 MID TERM REPORT CARD

We can't wait for some nicer weather.

Jacob recently came home with his grade 3, mid term report card, but it was much different from previous years.  This term, Jacob received some good grades in some areas, but he also received a couple I's (insufficient evidence to grade), which was a first, even for Jacob.

This year Jacob has really struggled with Phys Ed, Dance and Music.  Most of his issues in these areas stem from the fact that Jacob struggle with noise, as well as what he perceives to be inappropriate school behaviour.  In gym, obviously when engaged in sports, kids tend to be louder than normal.  While child A may only be calling for the ball during a game, Jacob will become enraged at the louder than normal noise.  Music class, for kids in grade 3, is much of the same.

Dance class is something different.  It's hard to get Jacob to really explain what the issues with dancing are, but we think that it's because of the actual dancing combined with music.  Jacob feels that kids should behave a certain way during school, regardless of the activity.  And when kids get dancing, they get silly and loud.  Both of which upset Jacob.

Jacob received a B in his social studies, but he got C's right across the board in everything else.  Even his grade in reading has taken a decline.  We're glad that Jacobs demands during school have changed since this report card.  We think that Jacobs grade were what caused the dramatic change to his IEP and for good reason.

The truth is that for the first time, Jacobs issues have prevented his education from progressing.  It's tough. but we as parents, can hopefully change through hard work of our own.  And tomorrow is our first workshop for helping kids with an ASD through reinforcement.  I won't go into details now, because I want the info I share to be accurate.  But hopefully at the end of this school year, Jacob's grades will have improved.  Then we can all enjoy the summer.
