WELCOME TO JIM'S AUTISM BLOG

Hi everyone and thanks for visiting our blog. My wife and I created this blog to chronicle our experience while raising a son with Asperger's syndrome. Since our son was diagnosed with an ASD at age 5, we've had a lot of questions. Lucky for us we have a great support network in place. And our blog gives us an opportunity to share what we've learned with our readers. We hope you find our blog informative and interesting. Thanks again for visiting.

PICKING UP ON HIS PARENTS EMOTIONS

It's been a rather tough week riding the roller coaster that is Asperger's.  Shannon and I had court on Monday, so it seems that Jacob was feeding form our emotions in the first half of the week.  Then his afternoon EA has been away sick for a few days and as such, Jacob's routine has been completely off at school.  This week Jacob's earned:
5 OUT OF 10 STICKERS

This is probably one of the lowest weekly sticker totals that Jacob has had this year, but when you consider the course this week took, we're not surprised.  So we'll still be taking Jacob to the mall for french fries.  It's amazing how children can almost feel their parents emotions.  We understand this occurs with Jacob too, so we try to put our best game faces on, but this week started out emotionally heavy.  Jacob's mornings have been good, which is a change, but since his EA's been away sick, Jacob's afternoons have been rougher than usual.  Again, it's expected when there's this big of an unexpected change.

I too contributed to the lack of consistency this week.  I had to work on Wednesday morning, which isn't a big deal, but I like to be home in the mornings as I usually do well at handling the morning routine of getting ready.  Jacob is going to have to get used to it again because my work season is expected to start early this year (approx Mar 25).  It's tough because Jacob grows accustomed to me being home and honestly so do I.  It's usually a big change for Jacob when I go back to work.

The good news is, that this week went by pretty quickly.  It'll be good to put this week in the books and move on, but not too quickly because we all enjoy our weekends off from the grind.  And since my work season is going to start early, I don't know how many more free weekends I'll have.

  1. Then kick back and enjoy the time with your family! I think this time of year is rough--it is for us. This is really a blah time of year and my son gets sick of things. We had some changes this week and I'll be glad to put this week to bed as well!!!

    1. Your right Liz, you have to enjoy your time together while you can. Before you know it, our kids will be going out on Friday nights.
