WELCOME TO JIM'S AUTISM BLOG

Hi everyone and thanks for visiting our blog. My wife and I created this blog to chronicle our experience while raising a son with Asperger's syndrome. Since our son was diagnosed with an ASD at age 5, we've had a lot of questions. Lucky for us we have a great support network in place. And our blog gives us an opportunity to share what we've learned with our readers. We hope you find our blog informative and interesting. Thanks again for visiting.

JACOB'S NEW IPAD

2 days ago, we got Jacob's new iPad from Future Shop. And after getting a new wireless router, Jacob was off and running. Since he's used one at his school often enough, he actually gave me a tutorial on how to use one properly.

It's amazing to think that an 8 year old can be proficient at using a piece of technology like this. When I was Jacob's age, there were few people that I knew that even had a computer let alone an iPad.

Immediately we installed all the Angry Birds apps we could find because they're some of Jacob's favorite games. Considering how popular those games are, I thought that I'd give one a try. I mean, how hard could it be right? Well, let me tell you, it was harder than I thought. And I grew up in the video game generation. Then I looked at Jacob's high scores and I was blown away. It appears that Jacob is an Angry Birds master, because I can't even complete some levels that Jacob has scored 80,000 points on.

We've also been trying out some educational apps too, but we haven't found a good one yet. There's been a few that we liked, but Jacob wasn't into them, so we're still looking. We don't want Jacob to spend the summer playing games, so we need to find some good school based apps for him to use.

Jacob finally put the thing down earlier today so I finally got another turn on it. I wanted to create a post about how much Jacob has enjoyed his iPad. But now he's on the computer, so I looked for a Blogger app on the iPad, and what do you know. There is such an app. So I composed this post using the iPad.

Jacob and Shannie are going to visit her sister, up north this weekend, so I'm going to be home with my dog enjoying the peace and quiet. I'll likely be online a lot because even though I'll enjoy some "me" time, I probably won't know what to do with myself. Either way, I hope everyone has a great weekend.

  1. I haven't gotten an Ipad yet. My son has a small laptop that's called something like a note pad or something and a regular laptop. He never liked any of the educational games either. Just the regular games.

    1. I hear you Kona. We got the iPad for Jacob to have fun on, but we'd like it more if he'd get some educational use out of it. But then again, that's what school is for right?
