WELCOME TO JIM'S AUTISM BLOG

Hi everyone and thanks for visiting our blog. My wife and I created this blog to chronicle our experience while raising a son with Asperger's syndrome. Since our son was diagnosed with an ASD at age 5, we've had a lot of questions. Lucky for us we have a great support network in place. And our blog gives us an opportunity to share what we've learned with our readers. We hope you find our blog informative and interesting. Thanks again for visiting.

FAMOUS PEOPLE AFFECTED BY AN ASD BORN IN SEPTEMBER

When Jacob was diagnosed with Asperger's at age 5, we quickly began to wonder what it would be like for Jacob when he becomes a grown up.  Would he be successful?  Go to college?  Be rich and famous?  So I began to research celebrities and other notable people who had an ASD.  And was I surprised.  I had no idea how many famous people had been affected by an ASD.  Either by having an ASD themselves or having a family member with an ASD.

*Please note*  Not everyone listed in this series has been diagnosed with an ASD.  Some may have an actual ASD while some may be suspected of having an ASD.  Others on this list may have a family member with an ASD.  Some people listed are deceased so an actual diagnosis of an ASD is impossible.  Also, every one listed was mentioned on multiple websites which I felt were credible.  And I did not reference Wikipedia.

September 2, 1964  -  Keanu Reeves  -  Famous actor and star of movies like Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, the Devil's Advocate and the Matrix.  The Matrix trilogy has grossed over 1.6 billion dollars world wide since the first release.  Reeves is suspected of having Aspergers syndrome.

September 15, 1961  -  Dan Marino  -  Former NFL quarterback.  Played 17 seasons all with the Miami Dolphins.  Amassed over 60,000 passing yards during his career.  Was a pro bowler 9 times and was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2005.  Dan Marino's son Michael was diagnosed with autism at age 2.

September 24, 1936  -  Jim Henson  -  Famous puppeteer who created the Muppet Sow and also worked on hit shows and movies like Fraggle Rock and Labyrinth starring David Bowie.  Henson received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1991.  Jim Henson was suspected of having Asperger's syndrome.

September 25, 1932  -  Glenn Gould  -  Famous Canadian pianist, composer and conductor who made his first public performance at age 12.  Gould won multiple Grammy and Juno awards for his work on the piano.  The Royal Conservatory in Toronto changed it's name to the Glenn Gould School of Music in 1997.  Glenn Gould is suspected to have had Asperger's syndrome.

  1. That's interesting. I didn't know some of those people on the list were suspected of having Asperger's. My son was diagnosed so late (8th grade) that I never even considered that he wouldn't go to college just because of his Asperger's. It would have been different if he had been diagnosed earlier. I would have worried more!

    1. You're right Kristy. My son was diagnosed at 5, so we instantly began to worry. But hearing that your son is in college gives us hope, which is why I do these posts. They make us feel good so hopefully, others people will too if they read them.
