WELCOME TO JIM'S AUTISM BLOG

Hi everyone and thanks for visiting our blog. My wife and I created this blog to chronicle our experience while raising a son with Asperger's syndrome. Since our son was diagnosed with an ASD at age 5, we've had a lot of questions. Lucky for us we have a great support network in place. And our blog gives us an opportunity to share what we've learned with our readers. We hope you find our blog informative and interesting. Thanks again for visiting.

GETTING THINGS BACK ON TRACK, INCLUDING A CHILD WITH AN ASD

Happy Remembrance Day to every one this November 11th.  My grandfather enlisted to fight in WWII in 1938, so I'd like to send a special thanks to all those in the military.

As our moving day draws closer, instead of feeling anxious and frustrated, I actually have begun to feel more calm.  Jacob is almost 100% after being home sick for a week, so he'll be going to school tomorrow.  My work schedule seems pretty clear this week, which is nice considering that everyone who is helping me move is also a longshoreman, so I should have no trouble moving.  And I'm working today, but I was able to score some time off, so all in all, the week has started great.

On Thursday evening, we got a call from our son's school.  We just figured that it was the school doing a check in regards to Jacob's time away.  But when Shannie answered the phone, she was surprised to hear that it was Jacob's teacher.  She was calling to make sure that everything was well and to let us know what the class had been doing since Jacob got sick.  It turns out that the class had been having a more relaxing week, so Jacob didn't miss much.  We're glad that Jacob didn't miss a  bunch of work, but it would have been nice for him to have some fun at school.

Tomorrow, Shannie and I are going furniture shopping in the morning after we get Jacob to school.  We still have to get some measurements from the new house, but we'll be doing that tonight, so it's no problem.  All  we need is a new sofa, entertainment unit and a new washer/dryer pair which will all hopefully be delivered on Thursday when we move in.  When we do begin to move, we're going to focus on the bedrooms, and in particular, Jacob's room.  This way, keeping our fingers crossed, Jacob will have a smoother transition from one place to the next.

This past week was mostly a blur, and we don't expect this week to be anything less.  I'm going to be taking a few days off in order to get things situated at our new spot, but I don't mind the down time.  Then once this weekend comes and goes, we just have to get our current home ready for the new tenants that move in December 1st.  We do have 2 weeks in between, which hopefully means we'll be ready, but luckily the people moving in are our friends, so I don't think they'll mind us painting while they move in if we have to.  Then after all the dust settles the only thing to worry about is the fact that Christmas is only 6 weeks away.  YIKES!
