I get used to the peaks and valleys associated with my job, but Jacob on the other hand has a hard time understanding why I'm home some days, then away for others. Just when he gets accustomed to having me home in the mornings, I have to go back to work. This of course, interferes with us enjoying quality time together either going downtown for lunch or hanging out at the pool. Since we haven't been swimming in a few days, Jacob has spent some time enjoying his DS and exploring his iPad.
He's even got to the point where he creates his own dialogue for the characters in his games. Which to me is too funny, and he is sitting in his room right now singing to himself. I love that he has some creativity even though he hates it when other people sing for some reason.
Since the month of August is projected to be more busy than usual, Jacobs remaining 2 summer trips are now in jeopardy of not being completed. Which of course, could be disastrous once Jacob goes back to school. He'll undoubtedly have a huge setback, should we not go to African Lion Safari and Marineland. And since he's apprehensive about being on the second floor his year in school with all the big kids, going on these trips is mega important of all of us.
The only day that's good for us to travel is Mondays because my brother's wife, who is always willing to help , only has Monday's off in her schedule. So we're quickly running out of time to even take these trips. So this Monday, we're going to go to the Lion Safari. Which should be good as long as its not boiling hot out. We know that Jacob doesn't mind the heat as much, but it's brutal for me, especially after working outside in it for a week straight.
So today I'm only working to 5, which will enable us to go swimming to help Jacob burn off some energy, which I'm not sure how he has. He's been waking up at the crack of dawn every day and he's also been staying up even later than usual. But Jacob's law will dictate that when it comes time to get up early for school, he'll be a grumpy Gus and be miserable. But what kids aren't miserable during the first week back to school right?
Earlier I said that this summer was relaxing, yet after creating this post, I feel more rushed and anxious about it. I pray that we can complete these trips, because if we don't, no one will hear the end of it. It's so hard to make promises to kids with Asperger's, because if you can't fulfill a promise, their world could spin out of control. Maybe once we get these trips done we'll be able to enjoy the little summer that's left.
Not the actual ship I'm working on, but close. |
If you can't fit both trips in before school, maybe you could promise to do one later in the fall if he has a fall break or something. It will at least be cooler. I've had to do that sometimes with my son. As long as we set a future date he's okay with it. (somewhat okay...) Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI'll wait until the last minute before I try to negotiate a different time. He'd likely be against it, but it could be worth a try. We're going on one next Monday, so there will only be one left. But in the essence of olympic spirit, it could be a photo finish.
DeleteGood luck, Jim. I can't stand the heat either and I'm in AZ. It's been over 100 degrees for the whole darn summer, ugh! Try to enjoy what's left of your summer. Take care!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jewel. I hope the rest of your summer is good too. And try to stay out of the sun.
